On September 25, 2024, the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Resident Representative, Mr. Shigeki Komatsubara, made a significant visit to Mzumbe University (MU) Main Campus, signaling a growing partnership between the university and UNDP aiming at advancing professional competencies and nurturing talents to youth in Tanzania who can manipulate the professional opportunities available in local and international firms.
In a courtesy call held at the MU Vice Chancellor’s office, the UNDP Resident Representative with his delegation marked as an introductory visit for the UNDP deliberate efforts in the contribution of expanding soft skills aiming at developing and promote the talents of young professionals. He emphasized the critical role that higher learning institutions play in driving Tanzania’s development agenda notably that institutions like Mzumbe University are key partners in the UNDP's core functions including poverty reduction, climate change in sustainable development and good governance.
"Universities are crucial incubators of knowledge and innovation. By working together, we can create solutions that respond to the challenges of lucking soft skills to graduates as we know competency is not an academic discipline," Mr.Shigeki Komatsubara emphasized.
"UNDP is committed to supporting Mzumbe University in empowering Students and Staff to grab professional opportunities available in global agencies particularly UNDP." He emphasized
The Vice Chancellor of Mzumbe University Prof. William Mwegoha on behalf of the Management expressed his deepest gratitude for UNDP to mark Mzumbe University as one of higher learning instituon to partner collaboration with the aim of building future for young professionals and ehnance competency.
Prof. Mwegoha emphasized on the ambition of transforming Mzumbe University through the Directorate of Internationalization and highlighted the commitment of the management in nurturing the talents and producing qualified graduates who can compete in the labor market.
"Our university is leading in various Management disciplines including Administration, Human Resources, Business, Entrepreneurship, Finance, Science and Technology. These are the key areas of collaborations. A successful implementation of the MoU will generate professionals who can take an active role in shaping the future, particularly through innovative projects and sustainable initiatives that benefit our nation and the world at large." Said Prof.Mwegoha.
The implementation plan and the signing of the memorandum of understanding are expected to begin in January 2025. UNDP is an International Agency dealing with poverty reduction, climate change, sustainable development and good governance.
